Favourite bands

Well a lot of people are writing about their favourite music bands or music style, I also love bands, so... here are my favourite bands!! (Wuuh!) Sorry if there’s too much 70’s or 60’s.

(There isn’t an order because I can’t say who is better)

The Allman Brothers Band

Their studio albums are good stuff, but they just nailed the live albums in those they play southern blues and I love that kind of music furthermore they perform older blues music from the 30’s with very danceable riffs. They are 6 members: a Drummer, two guitar players(one of them Duane Allman), a bass player (Dickey Betts), a piano(Gregg Allman) and another drummer that sometimes plays the harmonic. But sadly the guitar player died on a traffic accident, 1971, and the next year the bassist on another car accident near to the road where the other one. L

Pink Floyd

“So who is Pink and who is Floyd?” this is an excellent band, they went from a 60’s psychedelic (with Syd Barret) to a more deep and experimental psychedelic rock. “...I’ll see you in the dark side of the moon”.

You can’t just listen to one song of Pink Floyd; you’ve got to listen the whole album. Start with dark side of the moon, good lyrics and good music.

My answer to that Burger King advertisement

Have you seen that Burger king advertisement where they do as if they were a real state agency? Well, I did (as I did with all those YouTube’s adds... seriously... YouTube, you’ve got to stop it, you’ve got a problem). I think they are in Madrid what they do is invite some couples to see a flat, the false state agent tells them to come in, and she shows the flat to the couple: “this is the living room, the bathroom, the bedrooms...”, all of this with a pretty epic music as if they were saving their lives or something, and suddenly: “the kitchen...” but there is no kitchen, there is a Burger king restaurant!! Only for them!! How lucky they are. At first I laughed and thought: “man, I really want that”, but really do I? Eating fast food every day is not a good way of life; it brings lots of problems, such as obesity and higher risk to suffer a heart attack.

... ... ... ...

Resuming, eating too much fast food carries up problems, you could end up with obesity and dying of a heart attack, sooner than you think, whereas if you follow a healthy life style, by not eating too much fast food, practising sport (some running for instance) and follow the Mediterranean diet, you will feel better and you’ll have a longer life. But remember, that doesn’t mean you can’t ever touch a burger.

Fast food and Problems.

1-      Thesis Statement: “Eating fast food as something habitual is not a good way of life.”

1.A- problems: higher risk of suffering heart attack and obesity

2-      Fast food is normal in our way of life.

2.A- we eat it when we go out with our friends.

2.B- lots of fast food companies: MacDonald, KFC…

2.B.1.- Multinationals -> bad for poorest countries.

3-      Problems of fast food.

3.A- 35% of the people older than 20 years has overweight, and a 11% has obesity (according to the WHO).

3.B- every year about 3.4 millions of adult people die because of the obesity.

4-      Healthier way of life.

4.A- Mediterranean diet and how is it.

4.B- Practicing sport.

5-      Conclusion paragraph: to follow a Mediterranean diet and practicing sport is healthier than eating fast food every day.

Best guitar player or musician in the world

When you are talking with someone about music, there is no point in arguing over who is the best player in the world. Because music is art and as long as you can’t say that da Vinci is a better painter than Van Gogh, you won’t be able to say the same thing about Jimmy Hendrix and David Gilmour (for instance). 

Cars: high prize of the gas

Everybody knows that the prize of the gas has been going up during the last years and for everybody is getting more difficult drive and travel by car each month, so we need to find another resource to replace it. 

Most people think that natural gas is a good substitute we know where we can find it, it is always in the same places as petrol, and its extraction is not too hard and expensive, but actually it is not a good substitute. One of the reasons why petrol is becoming more expensive is that the whole world is running out of petrol and natural gas is not renewable source neither, so as the years will pass by we will be again facing the same trouble. 

Therefore we need a renewable resource and solar power would work perfectly here. Some points for it are that it is renewable sun will never stop shinning, at least while we are alive, it does not pollute in its extraction and even car would pollute because they won’t generate gasses, also it is becoming popular so in a few years if people and governments invest money on solar power soon it will be easier to find more solar stations and electric cars. 

Concluding, world needs to changes petrol, and solar power is a good replacement so we need to invest money on solar power.

Comparision: Surfing and Skimming

Surf and skimboard are two sports that I like to practise in summer, both are similar but they have their differences and I’m going to explain them.

The most evident similarity is the fact that for practise both of them you have to use a board, a surfboard or a skimboard, and stand up on it; another similarity is that the main objective is to ride the wave and do tricks; next one it is that you have to put wax on your board, because if you don’t, you will fall off the board and despite the fact that you are falling in the water, you will hurt yourself.

The differences between them are clear. The board, a surfboard is larger, heavier and it has keels, while a skimboard is smaller, lighter and it has no keels. Next difference is that when you surf: you start swimming in the water, then you stand up on your board and you go to the shore; whereas when you are skimming: you start running in the sand, drop your board on the wet sand (you don’t throw it) and then you stand up on your board and to catch a wave and ride it.

Resuming they are similar because both are water sports in which you will need a board, but they are different for they way of catching the wave.

Advantages and disadvantages of playing in a band

Playing in a band could be fun, and in fact it is, but it has its advantages and disadvantages. Not everything is about playing music.

Once you’ve been playing a while, you realise you have to spend too much time and money. The first disadvantages it is the time, you will have less time for do other things, because you must rehearse not only with your partners, but when you are at home and if you have to combine it and studying. Second issue it’s the rehearsal room, you can rent it, which takes you to another problem: money, or ask a relative to let you his country house or garage, which involves moving to that place, that’s the reason why I can’t stay all weekends in Murcia. Lastly and bigger issue it’s money, music instruments cost a lot, more than people think, and you’ll have to buy a amplifier, and microphones, etc.

But the advantages solve these problems. If I weren’t playing with my band, I would be bored sitting at home, watching TV... and I don't really care the fact of going back to my hometown each weekend, because I can see my friends. The two most important advantages are playing our own songs, and live performances I really enjoy it.

To finish I would say that playing in a band takes a lot of work, but it has its rewards.

My opinion about MGMT's last album self tittled "MGMT"

MGMT is my favourite band so far this month (surely next month will be another one, because I change my mind about this to many times), I love their first and second album, "Oracular Spectacular" and "Congratulations", because both of them has a psychedelic sound that reminds of bands like Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, The Beatles, 13th Elevator Room Hotel, etc. personally I think the second one is the best. But I feel kind of disappointed with the last album. It has really involving songs such as “Alien Days”, “Introspection” and “An orphan of fortune”, also I found interesting the song “I love u 2, death” which it’s more a poetry reading than a song but that’s a cool experiment and the lyrics get the point of the song.

Despite those songs, the rest of the album hasn’t got that sense of involving, the songs don’t seem to have a logical structure and the final mixture sounds very dirty. The fact of the dirty sound could be due to the psychedelic influences of this band, when you want to do psychedelic rock, you have to risk your music and experiment a little bit in order to get new sounds, even so it is very noisy and dirty.

Furthermore, it seems that they hadn’t put too much effort in this album for three reasons: Firstly the name of the album, it’s a self titled album, it doesn’t show too much originality; secondly the songs are kind of simple, to be honest are more complicated than other songs I’ve listened, and the lyrics are very cool on the line of the other albums; lastly, they put a version, it isn’t bad, doesn’t mean they are not good musicians, it just helps to prove the few effort they have put.

Appearances notwithstanding, it’s not that I don’t like the album; I do really like some songs, but it is that I’m disappointed; I hoped it would be like the first or the second. Let’s wait for the next one to be better.

My favourite place in the world: Mojacar

Mojacar is a seaside resort, it has beautiful places to go and there is a lot of people, it looks more like an American or an English seaside than a Spanish. When most people think of Mojacar they are thinking about party and clubs, but to me that is just the tip of the iceberg. I spend all the summer in Mojacar, since i was a child, so I know each part of this town. Apart of the pubs and clubs, there are good places to go. In the morning you can go to the "Cantal" beach, which in my opinion is the best beach, and then go to have lunch at "Tito's" (my favourite restaurant), where probably will be a band playing relaxing songs, or go to any other restaurant there is a lot of them for instance: Italians, Brazilians, Argentineans, etc. but better go to a "chiringuito" to eat a paella. In the afternoon you can go up to Mojacar Town, you should go by car or bus because you are going to go uphill and it will be a long walk, then go to the viewpoint and chill out in a café. Later at night there are a lot of places to go, you can choose if you are on the mood for a club, a live music pub or a chill out bar close to the beach. Resuming Mojacar is my favourite place because it is a beautiful town and there are a lot of things to do. 

Description: my brother

My brother is the best! He is a very good brother. He is eleven years older than me so he has been taking care of me, cheering me up and trying to make me feel happy all the time since I was a child. Because of that I really appreciate and admire him, I always wanted to do the things he did, like playing guitar, singing, surfing, etc. all except playing footbal, because I don't like it. He is tall, has long hair and people say we resamble closer to each other for our attitude and our look. he is someone reliable,thus I could have tell him all the troubles and secrets I had. To tell the truth he is one of the most important people in my life.

Early

It was about seven o'clock, the alarm clock hadn't gone off yet, but, anyway, he was awake. The morning sun was shining through the window curtains leaving some few lights came into the room, there wasn't any noises in the house yet, it was too early, only some birds singing while the flyed, so he took a deep breath, rolled over the bed, and looked at the window, the tiny window he had always hated because it was too little and noisy, now it was wide open and quiet, he turned his head and looked at the roof, closed his eyes and began to listen. What did he hear? Anything, no cars, no people yelling to each other, no phones ringing; just the wind coming through his window, like a lullaby made only for him, only for him to be heard, only for the ones who can hear the silence. He took a deep breath again and opened his eyes, the sun was shining, he got up and stood in front of the mirror, smiling. He knew that that would be another long day, but it didn't matter.


The alarm clock went off.
